Happy New Year! The Spring Term has now begun and it is set to be as busy as ever!
In case we see some of the flurries of snow, as predicted, here is another reminder of how to access information on school closures:
If you are uncertain whether or not school is open due to severe weather conditions, the school’s website will display school closure information and can be accessed via:
(see the noticeboard section)
The following local radio stations will also have the most up to date information regarding closures. These radio stations will normally provide half hourly bulletins and will display the information on their website. The radio stations carrying closure information are:-
Tower FM 107.4 FM and DAB
Hits Radio 103 FM and DAB
Also, parents can check the Council’s website to find out which schools are closed. This information can be found at:

We look forward to seeing parents on these days and answering any questions, about maths, that you may have.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday 24th March when parents will be invited into school to discuss their child’s progress. In the meantime, if you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school office to make an appointment to speak to your child’s class teacher.
It is vitally important that the school is notified when a child is absent. This must be done on the first day of absence by telephone, letter or by calling in person into the school. Failure to notify the school could result in your child’s absence being recorded as unauthorised. Unauthorised attendance can lead to a fine.
We recently wrote to you about appointments during school time but just as an additional reminder:-
Parents have a legal responsibility to ensure their child is in school every day during term time, unless they have a significant illness.
If your child is in school, doctor or dentist appointments cannot be considered an emergency, and therefore, you need to make the appointment for after the school day has finished.
From October 2018, the NHS set up out of hours hubs around Bolton and if you contact your GP you will find that appointments are available on the same day, out of school hours, especially for children up to the age of 16 who require treatment.
Going forward, routine doctors or dentist appointments during the school day will not be authorised. If you come to the school office to ask to take your child out for an appointment during the school day, it is highly likely that this will not be allowed.
Scheduled hospital appointments will be allowed, on production of a letter the day before the appointment.
Please ensure your children have their P.E. kit in school on the days that they will be taking part in P.E.
Earrings, headscarves and watches will need to be removed during P.E. lessons. If pupils are taking part in gymnastics, they must wear shorts for health and safety reasons.
All classes will be having either a visitor into school or a trip out of school. These trips link to work being carried out in school either in Topic, Science or another curriculum area and are used to enhance the children’s learning.
Reception Reception will be having the Freshwater Theatre Company joining them for a Fairy Tale Workshop.
On Thursday 16th January, Reception children will be given the opportunity to learn to ride a bike using balance bikes.
Year 1 Year 1 will be visiting Blackburn Museum to discover more about toys and even make one of their own!
Year 2 Year 2 will be having a World War 2 Workshop which will enhance their Topic work.
Year 3 Year 3 will be having a visit from Freshwater Theatre who will be delivering a Volcano Workshop. Dates to be confirmed.
Year 4 As part of their topic,Year 4 will be having an Anglo-Saxon Workshop.
Year 5 Year 5 will be visited by the Vikings! They have a wonderful day planned packed with exploratory, investigative and creative activities.
Year 6 Year 6 will be visiting Blackpool Zoo to support their science topic on Classification.
Further, more specific details of all trips/visitors will be sent out separately, closer to the time of the visits.
